The Aqua Icelander Treadmill
In 2018 we upgraded to the Aqua Icelander Treadmill. This treadmill is the market leader using chilled salt water and with an incline function and storable programmes.
This beautifully crafted machine is outstanding in its strength, technical function, filtration and hygiene. The superior design and breast bar encourage the horses to work in a soft outline at a controlled walk pace in perfect balance and rhythm. There is no risk of skin infections or excema and the chilled water is a mix of salt and Epsom salts increasing both buouyancy and resistance.
There is a moving belt which is controlled by a touch screen panel which also dictates the water height. Each sessions is split into five sections enabling the programmer to vary speed, water height, incline, and duration.
Benefits of working in the water treadmill:
· The horse works in perfect balance in a natural outline
· Skilled operators ensure the muscle groups are recruited in the correct order stabilisers before mobilisers – so engaging and activating core muscles
· Increased flexion and mobility in joints of the lower limb
· Increased movement and lift through the spine without the weight of a rider.
· Chilled water hydrotherapy reduces lower limb inflammation and swelling from strains and soreness
· Hydrostatic pressure on the lower limb and resistance increase stride length and elevation
· Epsom salts and salts act as a poultice on hooves and legs.

Testimonials
“Having access to the Equine Aqua facility has been hugely beneficial to my team of horses and it is such a great option away from everyday riding. With my top horse Clarke, he feels a lot straighter after this type of exercise and it is also really useful to use as part of his fitness programme. For the younger horses I have found it really helps them to strengthen over their backs. It is an amazing facility with such a friendly team, who always accommodate your individual needs - I couldn’t recommend it more highly.”
“Percy has now had 2 holidays (aka rehab stays) at the Haven. The first for a pedal bone injury and the latest following a bad laminitic attack and EMS. On both occasions, Percy had a 5* stay'; a 5* treatment and came back home stronger, fitter and in a position for me to get us back into normal work. This time around, I’ve decided to make it a permanent fixture in our training regime. Wonderful staff (so very knowledgeable, helpful, happy, friendly), quality treatment (I’m often asked if I want a tea before Percy is even off the lorry) and to say nothing of Percy being treated like a member of the family. Do I need say more?”
